The demand of Tatkal and ARP (Advance Reservation Period) tickets for Indian Railways is increasing day by day hence IRCTC is using Scripting technology. Capacity in NGeT was increased this year by doubling the servers in integration layer and adding storage space.
The enquiries in NGeT have also been increased from 1,000 per second to 3,000 per second. The concurrent user connections also increased from 40,000 to 120,000 in NGeT which has further increased to 300,000 before Diwali rush.
The capacity of NGeT was further increased to 15,000 tickets in a minute in 2015. The capacity was increased from 2,000 tickets in a minute to 7,200 tickets in a minute. To cater to the increasing demand, Indian Railways has introduced Next generation e-ticketing system(NGeT) on 28th April, 2014 to increase capacity of ticket booking. Presently, Internet passengers contribute 54.52 percent of the total passengers according to Indian Railways. Internet passengers has also overtaken non-Internet passengers for the first time for Indian Railways in FY 2014-15 thanks to IRCTC website.
